Flags Week 19: Spencer 3's 4 - 16 Oxford University

No complaints from Spencer 3’s after they lost their semi-final 4-16 to a very good Oxford University team, who apparently were missing a clutch of their better players!

The game started well for the home team, scoring early and keeping Oxford at bay for the first 10 minutes or so. As Oxford found their feet, their superior movement off the ball was clear to see. Open players moving at speed onto the crease were a constant threat. Add in good passing and ball control from all their players and Spencer knew this was going to be a high intensity game.

Oxford started to find the back of the net and kept the scoreboard ticking over at regular intervals. By contrast, while Spencer had a fair share of the ball, through some solid defense and good midfield workrate, scoring was proving tricky. Oxford were organised at the back and a match one-on-one when needed. Nick Flew grabbed an early goal, then only Mark Davies added to the tally with three great finishes.

Oxford dumped a whole heap of icing on their cake in the final quarter, winning that 1-7, which demonstrated their scoring dominance but also made the final score a little unkind to Spencer.

Quarter Scores:
2 – 4 / 2 – 8 / 3 – 9 / 4 – 16
