Spencer Lacrosse London

London's premiere lacrosse club for players of all abilities

League: Spencer 3's 2 - 13 London University

Forget the score, we get to play after losing weeks due to waterlogged fields. The only reasons we played a game back in January was because it was at East Grinstead on their lovely 3G pitch.

Anyway, back to this game. London Uni are top of East Division 2 after a very strong first half of the season. We heard they have lost a couple of really good American students (who have gone back to the US), but they still had enough offensive threat to score – and score quickly. They were 0-4 up within minutes as the young, old and novice Spencer 3’s did not pressure their better players, letting them have time and space shots on Colin. They score another flurry of goals after half-time from face-off fast breaks.

It’s fair to say the grass field on King George’s Park was thick and lumpy, making ground balls really problematic, for both teams. London Uni clearly won the ground ball and possession battle in the first half. Spencer improved in the second half, on ground balls and all-around play.

The home team only had two shots in the first half, scoring once, by young Ewan, assisted by Rob. London Uni probably had 20+ shots in the same period. The second half shooting stats were better, with more like 10 shots, scoring once, from Jude, again assisted by Rob, with London 20+ shots again. So a good shot/goal conversion ratio for Spencer, just they could not get into shooting chances due to ball handling errors then not winning the loose ball.

Some big league games ahead as to avoid relegation, the Spencer 3’s need at least 2, probably 3 or 4 wins from their final 6 fixtures. It’s going to be tough but not impossible.
