London's premiere lacrosse club for players of all abilities

League: Spencer 3's 4 - 20 Welwyn 2's

The Spencer 3’s were well beaten by the better team today. Welwyn 2’s came down from East Division One last season after a relegation battle with Hillcroft ‘A’ that came down to the final game of the season. They came to the long grass field of King George’s Park with enough East Div 1 talent to blow away the home team in the opening exchanges.

Whilst the Spencer 3’s had 16-man squad on display, half the squad were youth players in their transition season from junior to senior lacrosse. This bodes well for the rest of the season, as they gain confidence playing against adults, but today the experienced Welwyn players too often found the route to goal a little too easy.

The experienced amongst the Spencer ranks also struggled to get a grip on the game. It was not until the 11-man Welwyn squad started to tire that Spencer found clearing the ball a bit more straight forward. The home team had few prolonged periods in offence, giving up possession too quickly, so youngster Raphael, playing long-stick midfield was heavily utilised, and one of Spencer’s stand-out players on the day.

Spencer scorers were Andrew Mottershead and Angus Macleod.

Thanks to Ian Ballantine who stood down to referee the game.
