League Week 15 Results

Spencer 14 – 8 Reading Wildcats

Spencer 2’s 6 – 4 Hillcroft A

The 2’s go two wins clear at the top of East Division 1 after a close game against title challengers Hillcroft A. Never more than two goals separated the teams as the two defences and goalies had the upper hand over each offence for much of the game.

Hillcroft moved the ball better, in transition and settled attack, had the more shots, including two off the pipes, but needed that little extra attacking movement to get the Spencer defence out of shape to great higher percentage chances.

The Spencer offence was more inconsistent; at times fairly average (for East Div 1), then good enough when it mattered to keep the scoreboard ticking. Three separate holding penalties against Hillcroft helped with two of those man-up periods leading to goals.

As neither team can be promoted to the Premier Division (league rules prevent a club’s 2nd team from playing in the top division), this was not a do-or-die game, but was still competitive for the pride of topping the division. The next encounter, should, on paper at least, be the East Plate Final on 28th February, and that should be some game!

Purley A 0 – C – 10 Spencer 3’s

Alas Purley A conceded this game due to insufficient player numbers.
