Spencer Results - 24th February

Just two teams in action this weekend. The first team had a weekend off and the seconds agreed to rearrange their fixture with Hillcroft B.

The 3s and 4s were, by coincidence, both playing away at Epsom which allowed for plenty of support and even more train beers!

Epsom 8 - 13 Spencer 3s

Benjy Thompson on the game:

An important victory for Spencer 3s on Saturday, beating Epsom in a crunch match by a 5 goal margin to continue the charge towards a top 3 finish in the East 1 division. A quick start from Spencer saw them take a two goal lead, only to be pegged back by Epsom to end the first quarter at 3-3.

The second quarter saw the play of the day from Spencer goaly James ‘Coxy’ Cox - picking a point blank bullet from his bottom right corner, it must have been a massive shock for him because the shooter was Spencer’s very own midfield maestro James Blackman (earning him the Dick of the Day award)!

Spencer were dogged in the third quarter, taking the game away from Epsom with a streak of unanswered goals spread around the Spencer attack. The fourth quarter saw Spencer see the game out for an 13-8 victory.

Spencer goals came from Gustav, Rhys, Joakim, Benjy, Moose and Dick. Performances of note were strong transition from James Keal and the defensive wall of Fozzy, Freddie and Bob. MVP was long stick midfielder Tom Hewitt for hoovering up ground balls, pace through transition and stellar defending. Thanks to Epsom for hosting.

Epsom 2s 8 - 13 Spencer 4s

Captain Mike Cooper gives us the low-down:

The 4s arrived at Epsom for a crucial match in the race for promotion. With a fairly evenly matched first quarter we finished 2 - 4 down after two spectacular debut goals from Cosmo Coughlin.

After some inspiring quarter time talks we went on to win the second quarter 4 - 3 with two more goals from Cosmo and James Smith and Oli Angwin also getting on the score sheet.

Going into the third one goal down our defence managed to keep a clean sheet for the quarter whilst the attack bagged four goals putting us on 10 - 7 going into the fourth.

With Epsom putting one away immediate at the start of the fourth quarter we knew it wasn't over yet. With some excellent in attack we stacked up three goals for the quarter winning the match 13 - 8. Man of the match going to Kohei Hattori for some excellent ground balls and defensive play, keeping Epsom danger man in check.
